Man charged over bank robbery

AN armed robber surrendered to police in heavy traffic after holding up a Perth bank.

Police said the 26-year-old man entered the bank on Albany Highway in Cannington at about 3.35pm on July 3.

He passed a note to a staff member and pointed to his waist to indicate he was armed.

The man, from Piara Waters, fled the scene in a green Volkswagen station sedan after a staff member handed him cash.

Police arrested him on Canning Highway in Como after he surrendered to police in the midst of heavy traffic.

He was due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today.
