Man wins Lotto … then gets up at 5am for work

Staff WriterCanning Gazette

WINNING a share of a division one Saturday Lotto prize was not enough for a Canning Vale man to switch off the alarm, waking up for work at 5am the following Sunday.

The $393,000 win was a reward for persistence, with the man and his wife playing the same numbers for 15 years.

“We don’t normally check the numbers on Saturday night but we had a quiet weekend ,” the 48-year-old man said.

“At first my wife thought we had five numbers, but we soon discovered we had six.”

Despite the life-changing news the winner still woke at 5am for work on Sunday.

Lotterywest spokesperson Jennie Fitzhardinge said it was quite common for people not to go overboard after a big win.

“A common theme we see with our winners is that although they’re excited, they say they want to take time and assess their options before spending their winnings,” Ms Fitzhardinge said.

“Most of our winners say they will continue to work, but that now they have the chance to use their income in ways other than paying mortgage and bills.”
