The 15-year-old Wilson teenager is one of just four WA grand finalists in the competition, which aims to discover and kickstart the careers of aspiring models.

A chance online encounter with Perth Modelling Academy early last year piqued Mia’s interest, and after reading through the website she was sold.

“I looked through their development course and how they train new models and became really interested in the process as well as the whole industry,” she said.

After completing a 10-week course dealing with the basics of the profession, Mia was convinced that she had found her passion.

“Over the last year I’ve done a number of photoshoots with professional photographers as well as some runway shows,” she said.

“I really enjoy that you never know what is going to come next.

“You’re always trying new things and meeting new people.

“I also like the creative side of modelling. It’s not uncommon to do shoots where you are splattered in paint or covered in feathers.”

Mia competed in the WA finals of the Australian Supermodel of the Year competition in October and, after impressing the selection panel, is now preparing for an intensive four-day grand final in Sydney starting on February 9.

Up for grabs is $1500 in cash prizes but the biggest benefit is national exposure and the possibility of a lucrative contract with a Sydney-based agency.

“In 10 years’ time I’m hoping to be signed with an agency and to be travelling internationally doing runway shows,” Mia said.

“It’s probably a bit unrealistic but I really do love Givenchy clothing and their brand and would love to one day showcase their clothes in a photoshoot or runway show.”
