But when she walked through Willetton Senior High School’s gates last week, she was Lilli Watt, national model competition winner.
The Year 9 student was named Girlfriend Rimmel Model Search winner after competing against more than 2000 Australian teens for the title.
Lilli had no modelling experience and when a billboard was unveiled showing her face on the cover of Girlfriend magazine she did not believe she had won.
‘I was so excited. I couldn’t quite believe it at first,’ she said.
‘I’m still excited from it ” I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me.’
The annual competition has launched the careers of super-models Catherine McNeil and Abbey Lee Kershaw. Watt won a two-year contract with Australian modelling agency Chic Model Management.
She also has the opportunity to be promoted by one of Next Model Management’s overseas agencies in New York, Paris, |London, Milan, Los Angeles or Miami.
But Lilli said she hoped to finish school before pursuing a modelling career and thanked her friends and family for their support.
‘They were so happy for me; they were really supportive, I’m glad to have them,’ she said.
Former finalist and judge Samantha Harris said the model search was the perfect introduction into the modelling world.
‘There’s no doubt that like so many of the girls who have gone before her, Lilli will go on to great success,’ Harris said.
