Monica Storms to award win

Pia van StraalenCanning Gazette

Monica has been winning creative writing competitions since she was in Year 3 and the creative youngster with a flair for emotive writing continues to go from literary strength to strength.

Her latest piece, titled After the Storm, is filled with raw emotion as she describes protagonist Sophia’s harrowing hours of distress and battle for survival as she is surrounded by wreckage and a sea of glutinous water which sweeps away many life forms like dust particles.

Sophia’s quest to find her parents ends tragically with a gruesome discovery, which Monica described as “nature’s malicious smile”.
