That is what happened to Bentley student Tarsha Ford, who missed almost three months of school because of glandular fever.

She ranked highest in her psychology class, second in English and was recently named WA’s most motivated student. Friends and family encouraged her to enter the Most Motivated Student competition ” run by student website 3 Fat Carrots ” with a one-minute video about how she kept motivated.

‘My friends at school keep me motivated ” they tell me what I can do to catch up, they keep me up to date and they make me feel like I have somewhere to go to relax and chill but also get help with work,’ Ms Ford said.

The Year 11 student planned to graduate from Sevenoaks Senior College next year with honours in physiology and go on to study law and international relations at UWA.

‘I want to study law because I believe everyone deserves their second chance whether they did or didn’t do something ” I want to be able to give them that chance,’ she said.

‘My friends and I have this saying: even if you fall on your face, you’re still moving forward.’
