Naidoc Week Walk in Wilson celebrates women

Jaime ShurmerCanning Gazette

THE invaluable contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women will be celebrated at this years’ NAIDOC Week Walk in Wilson.

The City of Canning will host the walk on Sunday July 8, from 9am to 11am, starting at the Kent Street Weir Park.

The theme of the walk is ‘Because of her, we can’ and City of Canning Mayor Paul Ng encouraged the community to participate.

“Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have fought and continue to fight for equal rights, law and justice, rights to country, equality in education and employment and the preservation and celebration of culture, language, music and art.” Mr Ng said.
