Nurse awarded for mentor role

Jessica Wirrell was named Preceptor of the Year ” a competent registered nurse who acts as a role model while teaching, counselling and mentoring novice nursing students.

Ms Wirrell said she was nominated by her employer after she won SJOG’s 2012 Excellence in Preceptoring award.

She currently nurses at the SJOG Murdoch hospice where specialist palliative care is given to patients with life-limiting illnesses.

‘People often ask me how I can work in palliative care, but I see it as a privilege,’ she said.
