Police officer charged over fatal chase

A MALE police officer has been charged over a fatal chase in Welshpool earlier this year which claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

The incident happened in the early hours of February 14.

The 36-year-old senior constable was working in the Armadale District at the time and has been charged with reckless driving.

He remains on operational duties and is due to front Armadale Magistrates Court today.

A 35-year-old woman from New Zealand was charged with manslaughter the day after the crash, and she was hit with five further charges later in February.

These were failing to comply with a direction to stop by police, failing to stop and render assistance after an incident occasioning death, failing to report an incident occasioning death, having no authority to drive and displaying false registration plates.
