Prisoner seriously assaulted at Hakea Prison

AAPCanning Gazette

A PRISONER has been seriously assaulted at a Perth prison after being moved from a protective unit to the general population.

The Hakea remand prison inmate, who was reportedly incarcerated for very serious offences, was beaten savagely within hours of being moved on Wednesday.

Corrective Services Commissioner Tony Hassell said the prisoner didn’t want to remain in the protective unit, could not be forced to stay there and suffered a fractured cheekbone and eye socket in the attack.
