The suburb generates about |$9.5 million towards the City’s revenue, 22 per cent of the total rate revenue.
Mr Reynolds said this had helped keep rates low throughout the city, with the average residential rate at $620.
One of the amalgamation proposals presented in the Metropolitan Local Government Review places Canning Vale, currently in the cities of Canning and Gosnells, into an expanded City of Armadale.
Mr Reynolds said this could affect rates for other residents in the local government area.
‘The loss of the Canning Vale rates revenue would impact on the City,’ he said.
‘The remaining ratepayers in an adjusted boundary would potentially be paying higher rates.
‘The existing City of Canning ratepayers in Canning Vale would also potentially see an increase in rates imposed in their new council area.’
The City of Canning charges $1190 per year in rates based on an average four-bedroom, two-bathroom home, while the City of Gosnells charges $1196.
