RIVERTON Library’s new look has helped the City of Canning win one of the state’s top library awards.

Canning was awarded the Library Board of WA Innovation and Collaboration Award for the transformation of its library spaces.

Riverton Library’s refurbishment, which was completed in September 2018, included the set-up of ‘chameleon’ spaces, which can be adapted to serve the technological and physical needs of the small business community.

The award also praised the collaboration between the City’s Business Development and Community Learning teams to support the needs of over 8000 businesses in Canning.

Canning Mayor Paul Ng said the award reflected the unique approach to supporting local businesses, particularly those who were time-poor, working |in isolation and needed access to information and spaces to connect.

“Building the capacity of our local businesses not only improves their economic wellbeing but also connects our community socially and creatively,” he said.

“By transforming the services and programs that the small business community can access through our libraries, we also want to offer a safe, trusted space with access to lifelong learning opportunities and advanced technology.”
