Rossmoyne Netball Club unsuccessful in seeking State Govt funds for new toilet block and storage

Jaime ShurmerCanning Gazette

THE State Government failed to support Rossmoyne Netball Club’s efforts to build a toilet block and storage facility despite support from the Federal Government, the City of Canning and Netball WA.

Club president Meredith Willmott said the July round of Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund prioritised clubs that had no toilet facilities in proximity at all, and those looking to upgrade playing surfaces.

The Rossmoyne club wants to build the facility to prevent its players from having to walk some distance to toilets in the dark.

The club was notified of the decision not to support the funding application in the latest round on December 4, prompting the City of Canning to raise it as an urgent matter at its last council meeting of the year.

“The City went back on December 19 and increased its funding from just over $61,000 – about a third of the project – to $75,000,” Ms Willmott said.

A redesign and relocation means the facility is slightly smaller and the club is waiting on a re-quote by the builder to determine its shortfall, expecting it to be around $10,000 which is hopes to fundraise for or find further cost reductions.

“I’m really proud of the people that have been involved in funding the project,” she said.
