Rossmoyne Senior High staff taking part in Global Corporate Challenge

STARTING at the Colosseum in Rome, 100 staff from Rossmoyne Senior High School (RSHS) will walk, run and jump their way around the world in the virtual Global Corporate Challenge (GCC).

In order to “practice what they preach” to students, the staff took up the challenge to get fit and boost camaraderie among the ranks.

GCC is an annual challenge that runs for 100 days where employees from around the world compete in teams of seven to improve both their physical and psychological health.

The teams can virtually follow their journeys around the world, with all participants starting in Rome.

RSHS health and wellbeing co-ordinator Dan Hood is leading the local campaign, which worldwide has more than 100,000 participants.

“We are competing to improve our general wellbeing,” he said.

“The staff were really into the idea when I told them about it, and it has really blown up we have 14 teams.”

Mr Hood said the GCC was important for teaching and general staff around the school to get fit, but also to role model healthy behaviours to students.

“Absolutely it is something that needs to be lived, we role model everything else in teaching and we have a responsibility to demonstrate that we are looking after ourselves,” he said.

“We are practicing what we are preaching.”

Mr Hood said the isolation that came with the digital age meant encouraging physical activity was more important than ever.

Starting on June 2, the teams’ first challenge will be to walk 100,000 steps in 24 hours.

“We think all the challenges are achievable but it will be time for us to step up– literally,” Mr Hood said.
