A 15-year-old filmmaker from Shelley has made the cut at Tropfest 2018, with her film Death Day set to air in Parramatta for Trop Jnr.

Larisa Jacono is the only WA finalist among 16 selected nationally, and a winner will be chosen February 17.

The film follows teenager Belle who is tying up loose ends with friends and family while subconsciously looking for a reason to live when she is suddenly handed a “rainbow rock”.

Death Day is about how a simple act of kindness can save a life and the film is considered to address mental health issues and suicide without romanticising the issues.
