The structure plan will go on exhibition for public comment from Monday, June 17, for 42 days.

In an ordinary council meeting held last Tuesday, Canning Commissioner Linton Reynolds endorsed the CCCSP, which has been developed to guide the strategic development of the CCCSP as a Strategic Metropolitan Regional Centre under State Planning Policy 4.2.

In August 2012, the CCCSP had been deferred by council for further consideration.

Commissioner Reynolds said Canning already had a City Centre location and zone; however, for commercial and other reasons it had not been developed.

‘The Structure Plan is a long-term plan articulating a vision for the future of the City Centre,’ he said.

‘In short term, the City is looking to work together with landowners and the community to make the City Centre more vibrant and amenable.’

The City of Canning has also planned an event on June 20 at the Civic Administration Centre at 6pm.

The community is encouraged to come along and learn more about the plans.

After the comment period, feedback will be considered and possible changes will be made to the plan.

The Structure Plan will then be presented to council before it goes to the Western Australian Planning Commission for final approval.
