TWO St Norbert College students have shown they have a bright futures after winning gold at the 2018 WorldSkills Australia National Championships.

Michael McLevie (17) and Matthew Hodges (16) earned the accolade in the Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) Business Services category and the VETiS Information Technology category respectively and were among just eight WA participants to receive gold from the competition’s 50 categories.

Matthew said the win was a surprise.

“It was a tough challenge and I am happy that I did well,” he said.

“This year’s competition pack was totally different to what I had studied, so my Certificate II and Certificate IV Information Technology studies helped me with some of this year’s tasks.

“Being chosen to compete in the National Championships was a real honour.”

The WorldSkills competition is held every two years and aims to find the best apprentices, trainees, tradespeople and VET students from around the country.
