Mr Waight was injured after a collision during a game on June 14.

He cracked a bone in his neck and his ribs, tore ligaments and has swelling in his spine after an on-field collision.

Mr Stewart said the Canning Vale Senior Football Club player still had no feeling in his torso, legs and arms, but he had limited movement.

‘His family have passed on to me that they are amazed at the support, and on behalf of the family and Damian they can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity and all their hard work,’ Mr Johnston said.

Club vice-president Mike Sillis said the club was tight-knit and would band together during this sad time.

‘The whole team has naturally been devastated by the events but we are all very hopeful that Damo makes a full recovery,’ he said.

More than $40,000 has been raised for Mr Waight.

The fundraiser was held on match day on June 21 at Clifton Oval in Canning Vale.

About 52 items were auctioned, donation tins went around and hot food was for sale.

All proceeds have gone directly towards the Donations 4 Damo appeal, but with the 23-year-old still in Royal Perth Hospital, the club is hoping to continue fundraising.
