Southern River College students Briony Downes, Halei Greaves and Amy Rickard (all 14) have asked their classmates to Go Red for CF in support of 65 Roses Day by donating a gold coin and wearing red on May 30.

‘Before we started researching, we didn’t know that people with CF don’t live to a certain age and we thought we should have known about the disease,’ Briony said. ‘It makes you upset when you think that you’ll never know who people with CF could grow up to be.’

The girls said it was important to raise CF awareness as one in 25 people carry the gene.

Principal Everal Pearse said she was pleased to see the whole school get involved in the casual dress day.

‘The girls are to be commended on the values they have shown ” you don’t often see students willing to step up in the community and to help people they don’t know,’ she said.

The girls also fundraised at Carousel Shopping Centre.
