CANNINGTON-based Communicare is launching a series of synchronised swimming classes with a focus on culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) girls.

Synchronised swimming in WA has gone from strength to strength in recent years and has expanded into introducing CaLD girls to the sport.

Trainer Alexandra Miller said there would be plenty of opportunity for youngsters to build swimming skills and confidence in the female-only sport.

“We believe that synchro would be a great sport for these girls as we are a female-only sport that focuses on strength, teamwork, flexibility and friendship,” she said.

“The sessions are targeted at girls older than six who have some basic water skills.

“Girls are welcome to be as covered as they want, providing it does not affect their safety in the water (and) we will have two coaches on deck and one swimmer in the water to assist – all of whom will be female.”

The sessions are free and run through the Department of Sport and Recreation’s Community Participation Grant.

They take place at the Gosnells Leisure World pool, from 4-5pm on January 16 to 20.
