ARSON Squad detectives have charged a 15-year-old boy who allegedly lit a series of scrub fires in the Canning Vale area over the weekend.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services was called to a small scrub fire on Admiralty Road Reserve last night at 9.35pm.

Fire fighters put out the fire, which burnt through about five square metres of native bush.

A male teenager was seen running from the scene and was detained by a member of the public until police arrived.

Detectives from Strike Force Vulcan charged the boy with six counts of lighting or attempting to light a fire likely to injure or cause damage.

Police allege he also lit a number of other fires in the Canning Vale area starting on Friday.

He will appear before the Armadale Children’s Court today.

Investigations are ongoing.
