The 19-year-old recently won Challenger Institute of Technology’s prestigious Student of the Year Award, plus the Apprentice of the Year Award.

Claudia, whose mother is also a hairdresser, said it was an incredible experience.

‘It was an overwhelming feeling of excitement to be recognised for all my efforts, training and preparation,’ Claudia said.

‘I am so thankful to each individual that has continuously supported and guided me through this journey and made achieving this award possible.’

After completing a two-year apprenticeship with Challenger Institute and Definitions for Hair in Myaree, Claudia graduated last year with a Certificate III in Hairdressing.

Claudia said she was interested in pursuing a career in high-end fashion because the trends were always changing and there was no limit to what she could achieve.

‘I’ve found there isn’t a better feeling than creating a piece to wow the audience and for them to wonder how it was done,’ she said.

‘Sharon Blain (hairstylist) as well as my mum are large influences in my life and I hope in the future to one day follow in their footsteps managing my own line of salons to holding workshops for other apprentices teaching and showing the love of hair, which I have.’

Claudia is aiming for selection for the National World Skills 2015 Australian team.
