Plans include a new science block and classrooms for the first intake of Year 7s.
Preparation work was finished this week, with new teaching spaces created so that old ones can be knocked down during the first stage, which is expected to begin sometime this year.
Principal Chris Booth said it was going to be a busy and exciting time for the school.
‘The tender will be going out soon for the main works, and I would expect that by August-September we would have a builder ready to start,’ he said.
‘They’re going to start with the Year 7 classroom block, and that will be completed towards the end of 2014.
‘The school gymnasium will also be extended, and is set to be completed around the same time.’
Mr Booth said the rest of the building ” including the new science block, upgraded arts area and design & technology blocks ” would be rolled out progressively until 2015.
He is particularly proud of the planned science block, which will include facilities for Gifted and Talented student programs, as well as its own astrodome.
‘We’re going to have some unusual facilities, such as a project room, where we have our gifted and talented students doing extension programs in the science area,’ he said.
