Willetton SHS students start Famished for Fiction book club

Pia van StraalenCanning Gazette

WILLETTON Senior High School bibliophiles have started a lunchtime book club to socialise, while enjoying their hobby.

Organised by Year 8 coordinator Kimberly Atkinson, the book club meets three times a term to enjoy their lunch and chat about their favourite books.

Ms Atkinson said the club, titled Famished for Fiction, started after a student – whose appetite for reading was so voracious she had been banned from reading at home – approached her.

“It has grown to be a really great group of kids who love to read,” she said.

“We are a big school with a big focus on sport and academics, but there wasn’t something like a book club.”

Ms Atkinson said the students ran the club, and each child who chaired a meeting would pick the next meet’s book.

“It’s lovely listening to them,” she said.
