Be grateful for abundance of food

Rosa Larsen, RivertonCanning Gazette

WITH the pressures on modern living and the time constraints on families, it is not unusual to hear parents venting with utterances such as “Oh, how I do hate having to do grocery shopping!”

But when one looks at the devastation caused to farmers by floods and other disasters, it is amazing to see the abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables being displayed on the shelves at supermarkets and greengrocers.

Not to mention the fresh bread, milk, the variety of meats, chicken, fish and so many other delicious and wonderful products.

We are indeed very privileged to be so spoilt for choice, in spite of the hardships which the farmers are facing from season to season.

You need only to see the masses of people in other parts of the world trying to eke out a living on putrid dump heaps, or others devastated by ongoing wars, to realise how proud and grateful we should be to be living in such a land of plenty which is our country, Australia!
