Four-fold value

IN response to Diana Ryan’s letter in the December 8 edition headlined “Loan the money”, Willetton Basketball Association has been at capacity for many years due to demand for its organised competitions and programs.

It tried to accommodate more demand for junior players by expanding its competitions to external venues, yet still demand grows.

The association has provided a valuable community service for players at many levels over 30 years, instilling values of purpose, health and wellbeing that come with well-organised sport to thousands of our community’s youth.

This valuable community service has been possible through the hard work of a large band of volunteers over the years and without any operational demands or funds from the City of Canning.

In context, the funds required from the City for the stadium expansion are a small investment in the future welfare of our broader community.

It is unlikely there will be another opportunity for the City to outlay such an amount for a four-fold project value.

It is a great asset (in social and facility terms) in Canning and deserves maximum support from the City.
