Long memories

I FIND it unbelievable that the Local Government Advisory Board, after making a sane and considered recommendation to leave Canning as a stand-alone council, has now done a complete about-face and consigned some of us to Melville.

I would like nothing better than to find that there is a God, that common sense and the will of the people still count for something in a democratic society and that we will be left alone.

One would think that with all the financial mess the Government is in now, its first priority would be to let go of the proposed amalgamations (or boundary changes). But no: it seems hell-bent on having its own way and is dragging us even deeper into a financial pit of its making.

I can foresee lots of politicians looking for other jobs come the next election. The people have long memories.
