No sprinklers

R. LAURIE, RivertonCanning Gazette

Most are fine but some wasteful individuals have been watering their gardens and lawns.

We still get regular rainfall, the daytime temperatures are not hot and there is dew on the lawn after dark. You do not need to water your lawns now.

If you water your lawn now, it will develop a shallow root system and will suffer during the hot weather. This will cause the plants to send their roots deeper into the soil in search of water. The deeper root system is better for plants.

Worse still, many sprinklers are watering the roads and footpaths. This is a complete waste of a precious resource that every person and animal needs. Turn your sprinklers off until at least November.
