THOUGHTS of a veteran.
An Anzac service is not to publicly condone or support wars, but a public display of gratitude and national pride for all our men and women who have fallen or were injured in so many wars.
Just as importantly, the pain and sorrow felt by so many families who lost loved ones.
The Anzac services publicly and annually display the Australian spirit that comes together primarily as six competencies: endurance, courage, ingenuity, good humour, larrikinism, and mateship.
As veterans, regardless of the colour of our uniforms or even what our first language is, we all take the long journey returning to normal life.
Along the way, we may get lost, stumble, fall, but we stand up, again and again, never forgetting we are the lucky ones. We are here.
The good humour, larrikinism, and mateship stay with us for life.
