Her father’s best friend, whom she described as a second dad, died several years ago from Hodgkin lymphoma and her grandfather suffered from lung cancer.
Ms Porter decided to raise money and awareness of the disease by taking part in the World’s Greatest Shave, as well as donating her long ponytail to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which helps to create wigs for cancer patients.
‘It’s about raising awareness ” not enough people get behind the cause,’ she said. ‘We need to get up and actually do something about this.’
Ms Porter held events for her friends such as a movie night and indoor soccer competition and encouraged them to donate the money that they would have spent on going out clubbing.
