Times has been community’s voice

Staff ReporterCanning Gazette

BEFORE the election, Premier Colin Barnett promised council mergers would be voluntary.

When re-elected he promptly broke that promise.

The Government then suspended our council, thereby silencing our community’s representation.

The suspension remained for long enough to prevent this community from electing a new representative council.

The administrator installed to replace the council turned out to be an honest and honourable man, not a puppet: so the Government dismissed him.

It was then a convenient time actually to sack the council and install three alternative administrators. Are they puppets?

Almost everywhere we turned, we were silenced, apart from one avenue.

I thank the Canning Times for continuing to give our community a voice while the Barnett Government bludgeons our democratic processes here in Canning.
