Basketball: Willetton Tigers’ coaches sign two year contract extension

Jessica NicoCanning Gazette

THE future is secure for the Willetton Tigers as the head coach for both senior teams put pen to paper on two year contract extensions.

MSBL head coach Stephen Black and WSBL head coach Simon Parker were both in the last year of their existing contracts and will now lead their respective teams through the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Willetton Tigers chief executive Mark Winnett said the decision to extend the contracts had been an easy one to make.

“Stephen and Simon have done an excellent job with their respective squads in recent seasons, they are both very strong and committed Willetton people and the club sees them both in the upper echelon of coaches in the SBL,” he said.

“Both coaches can now focus on the run home for this SBL season and prepare their squads for future seasons.”

Black said he was “honoured” to continue leading his team for the next two years.

“The program means a lot to me and I am very proud of what our team stands for,” he said.

“The passion and sense of enjoyment our players and coaches bring to each day continues to fuel my love for basketball and I look forward to the continued opportunity to work with such a great group.”

Parker agreed.

“I am excited about the future of the WSBL program at Willetton and thank the Tigers for the opportunity to continue my role as head coach,” he said.

“I’m passionate about the program, it’s been challenging building our own identity and culture but extremely rewarding.

“We have a talented group of local players and being able to continue to work with them will be fantastic.”
