Basketball: both Willetton Tigers teams into SBL quarter finals

Jessica NicoCanning Gazette

BOTH the Willetton Tigers men and women are into the quarter finals of the SBL.

The Willetton men did not have the successful run into the finals they were hoping for, going down to the ladder-leading Geraldton Buccaneers by four points in their final regular season game.

The Tigers started the game positively and led by five points at the first break before the home side came back in the second to tie the game up at 46-46 at half time.

The third quarter produced another arm wrestle with Geraldton taking a slim two-point advantage into the final break, but Willetton were unable to outscore them in the final quarter, losing the game 94-90.

Damien Scott dominated in the paint with a huge 41 points, including four from nine three-pointers, while Badou Diagne also dropped 20 points.

The loss had Willetton finish the regular season in seventh and they will now take on second-placed Joondalup Wolves in the quarter finals.

Their first game will be from 7pm August 4 at HBF Arena.

Despite the women having a bye during the final round, they finished fourth overall and will take on the fifth-placed Kalamunda Eastern Suns in the quarters.

Their finals campaign will kick off at home on August 4 from 7pm.
