Britton’s strong Classic hand

James BroadhurstCanning Gazette

WA’s leading trainer won two of the three heats at headquarters last weekend and has qualified five runners for the final.

Britton’s success started in the first heat, when Petra finished strongly to claim the honours.

Petra began sluggishly and was midfield in the early stages, but she was able to work her way forward and she came home with a powerful run to score over Stanga Tom by more than two lengths in 30.96sec.

Britton had a clean sweep in the second heat, when Star Recall turned the tables on littermate High Recall from the previous week’s Canning Trophy final.

Star Recall immediately bounced to the lead with a blistering first section of 5.63sec and was able to burn off High Recall.

Star Recall set a cracking pace out in front, winning by nearly five lengths in 30.38sec, with Gone To Heaven in second place and High Recall third.

Although Britton conceded the third heat to the Brad Yates-trained Stangafied, she still booked a finalist with runner-up Bekim Maxim.

Stangafied started slowly but built momentum, charging to the finish post to win by a whopping six-and-a-half lengths in 30.66sec.
