Cannington Greyhounds: Cobra Clutch claims first win

IMPROVING chaser Cobra Clutch collected his first piece of silverware following an eye-catching victory in the WA Bred Championship (520m) at Cannington Greyhounds last Saturday.

The Jamie Marsh-trained dark brindle shot straight to lead at box rise and did not give his rivals a look in with a dominant front running performance.

Cobra Clutch rounded the first turn with a handy advantage and then put the issue beyond doubt when he kicked away down the backstretch.

He rattled home to finish more than five lengths ahead of the runner-up Incognito Mac in 30.10.

Cobra Clutch has now saluted in his past three starts and has ten wins from 22 starts overall.

Persistence paid dividends for Heaps Of Ability in the other feature race of the night, the Miata over 715m.

Heaps Of Ability conceded the early lead to the fast jumping Ackeron but kept pushing forward to challenge the frontrunner.

After he was repelled by Ackeronat the top of the turn for home Heaps Of Ability wasn’t deterred and a late surge put him ahead in the final strides.
