VETERAN trainer David Hobby has strong prospects in the final of the Anniversary Cup (520m) at Cannington this Saturday night following a double during the heat stage last weekend.

Hobby claimed heats with star duo Monaro Monelli and Penny Monelli.

Monaro Monelli looked back to his best when he saluted for the first time since taking out the Group 3 Mandurah Cup inmid-October.

The speedster bounced straight to the lead from the rails alley and didn’t give his rivals a look-in as he set a cracking pace on the bunny before crossing the line nearly five lengths ahead in 29.93.

Penny Monelli was equally impressive in her heat, leading all-the-way from box seven and like her kennelmate she also stopped the clock at 29.93.

She has now been victorious in four of her past five starts and despite jumping from the pink in the trophy decider she has a great record from wide draws.

The Cheryl Isaac-trained Fun Boss was the other heat winner.
