Cannington Greyhounds: Weblec Belle claims win 100

Pia van StraalenCanning Gazette

WEBLEC Belle celebrated her 100th start in the best possible way by claiming the biggest victory of her career when she took out the Group 2 All Stars Sprint (520m) in dramatic fashion at Cannington last Saturday.

The former Victorian chaser has competed with distinction across the country following her debut in August 2014 but she has arguably shown her most consistent form since heading west to join Chris Halse’s team earlier this year.

Weblec Belle began well from box eight in the All Stars Sprint and landed in a good position behind her fast jumping kennelmate Pepper Fire in the early stages.

She then stalked the leader down the back straight and through the turn for home.

When Pepper Fire weakened with the finish line in sight Weblec Belle was there to take advantage.

With one final surge, Weblec Belle pushed ahead in the last stride to capture the trophy by a head in 29.91.

It was a clean sweep for Halse, who also filled out third place on the podium with Ramifications.

Weblec Belle has now saluted on 26 occasions and has banked over $258,000 in stakes.
