FERNDALE Lynwood Cricket Club has been active throughout the off-season in its pursuit of a head coach and has appointed Alan Zanich to the role.

Club president Dean Pearson said the club wanted to re-establish itself as the force it was in the 2015-16 season when it took out the Perth Cricket Association 2nd grade premiership.

Mr Pearson said Zanich has been appointed head coach and first XI captain for the coming season.

“The previous season was disappointing with the first XI representing in 2nd grade and only managing four wins and a draw, resulting in a seventh place finish,” he said

“With the head coach role fulfilled by a person with such a wealth of experience and recent success at this level the ‘Fairies’ are expecting a much more competitive season.”

He said Zanich was most notable for his coaching and captaincy tenure at Thornlie Cricket Club during the 2013-14 season, where his innovative approach elevated Thornlie from the bottom of the South Metropolitan Cricket Association (SMCA) 2nd grade into a semi-final during his first year in the role.

“It was this success in the head position, as well as his lead playing role in driving Thornlie to the SMCA 1st grade minor premiership last season, that caught the interest of the Ferndale Lynwood Cricket Club,” Mr Pearson said.

“With his consultative approach to coaching and captaincy, Alan intends to draw on the vast experience within the club while engaging the youth to help shape the direction of the season.”
