The David Hobby-trained dog scored the fastest qualifying time from the previous weekend’s heats in what was her debut over the journey.

Luba Monelli took an early lead and left behind kennel-mate Zelemar Diva with a time of 37.25.

Her owners, Mike and Michelle Quinsee, have a strong connection with the UWA Torpedoes water polo club and members of the team were at the track to witness the win.

Luba Monelli is named after an associate of the Torpedoes club.

Luba Monelli was whelped in July 2011 to dam Foolish Monelli.

Her sire Mogambo was a freakish race performer and has passed on his speed to Luba Monelli, who has won 15 races from 39 career starts and has amassed more than $76,000 in stakemoney.

She is one of several highly successful chasers from the litter, along with All Stars Sprint winner and Perth Cup finalist Sveta Monelli, Slava Monelli and Kova Monelli.
