MONARO Monelli motored to an impressive come-from-behind victory in the Sandi’s Me Mum Memorial final (520m) at Greyhounds WA Cannington on Saturday.

The David Hobby-trained chaser sat in third position, several lengths behind the leader Wagtail Kate, for most of the race but showed excellent strength at the finish to snatch the silverware.

Monaro Monelli muscled his way past the fading Wagtail Kate in the home straight and was then able to hold out the fast closing Topology to score by two lengths in 30.18.

It was Monaro Monelli’s third win in a row and confirmed the powerful racedog’s credentials as an up-and-coming prospect.

Monaro Monelli has accumulated an enviable record with 11 wins and 10 minor placings from 26 attempts.

Hobby has now captured the Sandi’s Me Mum Memorial on four occasions, including in 2013 with Sharon Monelli, the mother of Monaro Monelli.
