THE wild and wet conditions at Greyhounds WA Cannington last Saturday did not dampen the prospects of up-and-coming chaser Shell Shocked in the Britton’s Formal Wear WA Derby (520m).

Despite entering as the fastest qualifier, Shell Shocked looked to have a tough ask from box seven but he got a beautiful run into the race when Junk Yard Wolf crashed to the lead out of the traps.

Junk Yard Wolf exploded out of box six and cut hard to rail, which gave Shell Shocked a clear path across into second position.

Shell Shocked tracked Junk Yard Wolf down the back straight then accelerated into the lead as they turned for home.

He kicked away in the run to the finish line to claim the Group 2 feature race by more than two lengths in 30.11.

Shell Shocked, trained out of Enzo Crudelli’s Nambeelup kennels, has saluted in five of ten starts for more than $57,000 in stakes.

In other racing, Milly Keeping held off a late challenge from Victorian raider Empire Entourage to claim her heat of the WA Oaks by a narrow margin.

The other heat winners were Olivia Benson, My Nakita and Marydoll.

The WA Oaks final will be run at Cannington this Saturday.
