The Year 9 Corpus Christi College student has been nominated as a HBF Junior Sports Hero.

‘Athletics for me was a great way to see my friends on the weekend and stay active, and this was why I originally signed up four years ago,’ Jacqueline said.

‘Now I continue on with athletics because my enjoyment in this sport has grown, especially in high jump and I am a much more serious competitor.’

In July, Jacqueline travelled to Kuala Lumpur to compete in the 2013 International Little Athletics Championships and won gold in high jump for her age group. ‘This experience was an eye-opener for me as it gave me the chance to meet other athletes from not only around WA but also from overseas,’ she said.

‘I came home from this trip with a sense of self pride in what I had done, as well as a gold medal.

‘I had gained a personal best jump, too, and beat my previous PB by 6cm so I was very pleased.’

Since her trip overseas, Jacqueline was nominated as team captain for the Willetton Little Athletics Club and hopes to have encouraged her teammates to try their best.
