Perth Cup: Greyhound meeting abandoned due to storms

Staff writerCanning Gazette

The weekend’s stormy weather disrupted the preparation of many Perth Cup aspirants when Saturday’s race meeting at Cannington was abandoned after only four races.

Many of the greyhounds heading into series missed out on the chance of a final hit-out prior to this week’s Perth Cup heats although local hope Yunderup Dozer did manage to claim a Perth Cup Prelude (520m) before the repeated lightning strikes caused the meeting to be cancelled.

Yunderup Dozer trailed the fast jumping Shared Equity in the early stages but showed superior strength in the heavy conditions and he powered into the lead on the turn for home before kicking away to score by three lengths in 30.27.

In an earlier race Victorian raider Dyna Irminusclung onto a narrow victory in the Tabtouch Multi Formula Grade 4.
