The 13-year-old began his development as a runner at Melville Roar Athletics Club in the under-8s division.
Five years on and the Year 8 Kennedy Baptist College student claimed gold in the under-15 1500m race at the Australian Junior Athletics Championships.
Held in Sydney in March, Shaw said the win was his greatest achievement to date.
He also came fourth in an 800m race.
Coached by Lenny Hughes, Shaw has represented WA five times � at two national cross-country championships and three national track and field championships.
During the 2014/2015 winter and summer athletic seasons, Shaw came sixth in the Australian All Schools under-14s cross-country in Albany.
He also came third in the 800m and fourth in the 1500m at the Australian All Schools under-14s track and field championships in Adelaide in December.
Shaw said he was aiming to qualify for the world junior championships in cross-country and middle-distance running events.
Shaw received a $300 City of Canning Young People in Sport and Recreation grant to attend the championships in Sydney.
People under the age of 25 are eligible to apply for grants from $100 to $500 to attend interstate events if selected by their sport�s governing body.
