The teenagers need to raise about $70,000 via fundraising and seeking sponsorship before they hit the European waters in regattas that are part of the International 29er Skiff.
The project has had the high school students speaking about the scheme in front of clubs and organisations to attract sponsorship.
‘It’s a great experience for them,’ said coach David Mann, who will travel with the scheme for the second consecutive year.

READ NOWShannon Wright (16), who has been sailing for six years, said the support the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club group had already received had been encouraging.
‘We’ve had a lot of people being very supportive and happy to help out,’ he said.
He was also looking forward to sailing in different waters.
‘The conditions will hopefully be a bit better, not so windy.’
While there are plans for sightseeing in Europe, Shannon will have to juggle his Year 12 studies during the tour.
