WACA Premier Cricket: Willetton’s Hanna swings into record books with massive haul

Jessica NicoCanning Gazette

WITH only 20 wickets on offer per team during a standard two-day match, Matt Hanna’s recent Willetton Cricket Club record is an impressive feat.

The 25-year-old swing bowler finished his side’s game against Midland Guildford with a club-best wicket haul of 13-85, bringing his season total to 26 wickets in just five rounds.

Hanna said he felt like the ball was coming out of his hand well in the past few weeks.

“Our bowling attack is really strong at the moment, everyone is doing their job and we are forming some nice partnerships amongst the group,” he said.

“I’m pretty patient I think and being a swing bowler you kind of have to be, but I’d like to think I put the ball in the right areas more often than not.

“There has been a lot a of really good bowlers at Willetton over the years, so it’s nice to have my name alongside them on the honour board.”

The club record is the most recent accolade for Hanna, who was also named in the WA Premier Cricket team of the year for the 2016-17 season.

Willetton plays Melville in round 6, with day one starting at 11.40am, November 11 at Burrendah Reserve.
