MANNA Inc knows first hand how important a hot and healthy meal is to a homeless person.

The not-for-profit serves about 150 meals to the homeless at Weld Square, Northbridge from Monday to Friday offering a hot soup or salad, a main hot dish (vegetarians included) and dessert, which are cooked in their Victoria Park commercial kitchen.

Next month, Manna Inc is raising awareness of homelessness with its Homeless for a Night challenge that provides people with a “lived experience” of being homeless.

Community News has joined the Feed WA Appeal, a national fundraiser that uses donations to provide grants to not-for-profit groups that help people in your neighbourhood.

Just 50 cents can provide a meal for someone in need.

Part of the nationwide Feed Appeal, it provides grants of up to $50,000 to help grassroots charities boost their capacity to store, cook and distribute food for struggling families, individuals, pensioners and students.

Buy a $1 Feed Appeal token at any Woolworths store during July and your donation will go twice as far – it will provide two meals for people in need.

Woolworths WA general manager Karl Webber invited customers to join the supermarket chain in helping nourish the community by purchasing a $1 token.

To learn more, donate or apply for a grant, go to feedappeal.org.au and follow the links.
