WA tennis juniors have won two of the four championships up for grabs at the Australian Teams Championships held in Queensland last week.

Jessie Culley (Cottesloe), Lily Fairclough (Winthrop) and Taylah Preston (Hocking) took out the Girls 13/under trophy while Jake Dembo (Yokine), Liam McDowell (Floreat) and Nemanja Savic (Morley) won the Boys 11/under National Championship.

The girls came up against QLD in the decider but WA proved too strong against the home team with Culley and Preston pairing up in the doubles putting WA on the board early with a convincing 6-3, 6-2 win.

Tennis West chief executive Michael Roberts said WA’s success at the Australian Teams Championships was testament to the elite training environments available to the players and the hard work and commitment of everyone involved.

“The high performance training environment available to our top performing junior players continues to produce outstanding results on both the national and international stage,” Roberts said.

“Bringing home half of the titles available at the championships says a lot about the quality of our players and importantly speaks volumes to the worth of our highly valued coaches.”

WA’s Boys 13/under Mauhan Dass (Willetton), Marko Mrdak (Morley) and Zachary Viiala (Claremont) finished fourth while the Girls 11/under Yuvna Dass (Willetton), Amy Findlay (Duncraig) and Alice Stevens (East Victoria Park) were sixth.
