AS the days grow colder there are few better winter warmers than a nice hot bowl of soup, which is when a Coogee business steps in to fill the void.
For the last four years David Kane’s Suppa Club has been using fresh WA products to give time-poor locals a healthy and delicious alternative to fast food.
Mr Kane said the idea to start the business came from his own experiences looking for something healthy to eat.
“Living and working in Freo back in 2015 I was fed up with the lack of healthy on the go food there was available,” he said.
“Being the oldest recipe known to man I felt that someone ought to pay this age old dish some homage and give it the love and care it so rightly deserved.
“This meant creating the tastiest product I could possibly make, supporting local growers and being sustainable in our production by using reusable glass jars and biodegradable packaging where ever possible.”
With an extensive range of hot and chilled soup including pumpkin and coconut, beetroot and horseradish and trio of mushroom, as well as vegan options, there is plenty available for all tastes and lifestyles.
Last year Suppa Club also donated more than 2000L of soup to St Patrick’s Community Support Centre and other homeless charities.
Mr Kane said it was important for people to support their local businesses and communities.
“You are supporting local growers and lowering your carbon footprint by not having items transported from other parts of the country or world,” he said.
“You are also helping to support local people and the local community-our kitchen is based in Coogee, our staff and I live in the local area and anything we have that is going spare is donated to help people a little less fortunate than us in our local community.”
