Like a first impression, you only get one.

While that might bring most an immense amount of pressure, Beeliar’s Meagan Dux says she could not be more comfortable with The Rise of Delilah, the book that will announce her arrival on the literary landscape.

“I’m thrilled with the final product,” the Murdoch University graduate said.

“There were quite a few nights when I was up until 3am typing away and I sacrificed going out with my friends and doing things I enjoy to finish.

“But it was well worth it and I wouldn’t change a single thing about my novel.

“An author only gets one debut novel and I’m very proud this is mine.

“I put my heart and soul into the book and I hope my readers will love Delilah’s journey just as much as I loved writing it.”

The Rise of Delilah tracks a daughter’s journey to find her father and the realisation that locating him will come at a cost.

Dux, 25, said the words flowed easily.

“I loved the writing process,” she said.

“Surprisingly, it was ridiculously easy.

Dux said production of the novel had helped her manage her battle with depression, which she was diagnosed with in 2013.

“I took my pain and used it to find enough strength to write,” she said.

“Within three months, I had finished the manuscript and my life turned around.

“I had found a passion and my purpose and I had found the one thing that saved me in my darkest moments.

“Writing a novel changed my life forever and I’m forever thankful I decided not to listen to the voice that was telling me I couldn’t do this.”
